New England Aquarium Purchases Eastern 27'
Eastern boats, Inc. recently completed a 27’ Chesapeake for the New England Aquarium. The Lophius will be mainly used by their divers to collect specimens for various exhibits at the Aquarium, including the New England Tidepool and Gulf of Maine exhibits. It will be used mostly in local waters (Massachusetts Bay), but will make annual trips to Eastport, Maine and occasional trips south of the Cape. Their 1984 Eastern 22’ was used occasionally for marine mammal rescue and release work in addition to its regular duties as a collection vessel.
Aquarium Curator John Dayton expects the 27’ may also be used for the same purpose. Their Eastern 22’ spent several years in a row in Delaware Bay long-lining for sand tiger sharks. It also spent many summers in Woods Hole collecting little tunny (aka false albacore) for the Aquarium. You can visit their website at www.neaq.org to learn more information about news, events and research currently being conducted by the Aquarium.
The new Eastern 27’ sports a 250HP Evinrude E-Tec with Hydraulic steering, and a tuna door for easy water access.
Thanks to John and his crew for the great pictures.

The Eastern 18' Classic
The Eastern 18' Classic that started it all 25 years ago is back and better than ever. We increased the freeboard by 3" while maintaining the same sheer lines that made the Eastern 18' famous. We opted to improve the finish by adding an inner liner for that clean appearance. For longevity, we went with an all composite construction using a fiberglass stringer system and Nida-core in the deck and floor.

A true work boat, it sports a Cummins 5.9 355HP, w/block heater, a 6hp dual prop bow thruster, and Hurricane diesel fired furnace. Its primary use is to act as a command center in case of emergency along the coast or in the Piscataqua River.
Eastern Boats in Puerto Rico

In January, we proudly finished two 31' fishing vessels for the Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture. Both vessels were outfitted with hydraulic pot haulers and were awarded to two local fishermen to use. It was quite a pleasure working with them via e-mail and fax. Roger flew to Puerto Rico in August to meet with the actual fishermen. Dockwise Transport shipped the boats from Florida to St. Thomas where they were motored to Puerto Rico.
